When John Fitzgerald Kennedy came to Ireland for an official visit as the 35th President of the United States of America, he came to a country that was changing. Ireland, so long isolated, was at last ready to take her place among the nations of the earth.

For three days in June 1963 the spotlight of the world was focused on Ireland.

In every corner of Ireland, President John F. Kennedy was welcomed with great emotion. The people felt he was one of their own returning to the land of his ancestors.

The Kennedy Family Legacy is an integral part of life in New Ross, Co Wexford.  The achievements of this distinguished family are celebrated in three Heritage Sites;

  1. The Kennedy Homestead
  2. The Dunbrody Famine Ship
  3. The JFK Aboretum

The people of New Ross and County Wexford along with New Ross Town Council started planning the 50th anniversary celebrations of the 1963 visit of President John F. Kennedy in 2011.

Never has a visit touched and inspirited generations of Wexford and Irish people as that brief visit in 1963.
