I was presented on the 19th December 1974 with a twig which was a piece broken off the nearest tree to President Kennedy’s grave in Arlington Cementery immediately after the burial. It was given by an American Officer to Col Cyril M. Mattimoe who was in charge of the Irish Cadet Guard of Honour which, at Mrs Kennedy’s request rendered military honours at the graveside. I also was presented by Col Mattimoe with a photo of the Cadets taken before the Cortege arrived and a book entitled ‘The torch is passed’.
